It’s About Time!

If I were to ask you, what is one thing or commodity which is most essential and naturally given to us as soon as we are born and we almost take it for granted all the time, what would be your answer? (Hint! The answer is hidden within the question…).  Out of all things that we can earn and spend in a given lifetime, the one thing we cannot earn, borrow or replicate but spend a lot of it regardless is TIME. We all arrive in this world with a definite & limited amount of time given to us to make the best and most of it. What we do with that time manifests our life and its outcome. Ironically Time is what we all want most, but what we take most for granted! It’s no secret that time is constantly fleeting in nature and once gone its history never to repeat itself, still very few of us realize the importance of spending it wisely and on things that truly matter. What we do with our time is purely our business, however it’s good to know that time doesn’t give a shit about it. Yes, time doesn’t care for what we do with it, it will do what it has done since eternity, ‘tick-tock’ and pass away until no more of it is left.  It is us who have to be concerned about what we can do with the time at hand. It is for us to ask ourselves if we are spending our time on the right things and right people? Are we using it most effectively and efficiently? Are we simply shifting from one act to another for the sake of spending hours during the day or are we doing things which have a true impact on our surroundings? Think about it.

Not too many days ago, the Missile Man of India, the most coveted and talented president the country has ever seen passed away and the entire country went into an instant wave of emotional out-pour all over social media. People genuinely felt the vacuum that his absence created across the nation, and even those who had never met him had a huge personal loss to mourn. It was mainly because of the incredible and unprecedented things Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam did with his time! It is because of the huge positive impact he left on everything he touched. He could not have used his time more brilliantly yet with so much simplicity. He is a role model for billions of people and taught them how you can make the best use of time to not only fulfill your personal journey but also to bring so much good to others. His life was an apt example of ‘if you respect the time and do things worthy of it, time will respect you.’ He died doing what he was most passionate about, Teaching. He made his life count!

I read it somewhere recently, ‘every day you wake up in the morning, is the first day of the rest of your life’.  It never occurred to me so intensely before that we have an opportunity every single day to change our life for better! To make it what we want it to be. To pursue our goals and to change the direction of our journey at any given time, to bring out the best in us and to positively impact others around us.

As soon as the day breaks and we indulge in the day-to-day we should ask ourselves the question, 'how am I going to spend the 24 hours that are allocated to me for the day and impacting what?' The question should trigger a mental chart of where our time will be going and leaving what impact? It’s a great auto suggestion that steers your day in the best possible direction. Of all things in the world do not take time for granted, because it is so powerful it has the capacity to make everything look like a dwarf!
