The Little Joys...
"We never get to have any fun!" grumbled my
7 year old son through this broken front tooth & partly swollen lips. The ask was that he wants to enjoy his ice-cream cone with his feet hanging inside the water fountain of the small park conveniently located by the cross streets of our home. Some moments just freeze in time and make their way instantly to the hall of fame in your permanent memory! That was one such moment for me. I will never forget that face, the expression and the immaculate innocence behind it! But what was so special about that moment that melted my heart and transfixed my mind?
Rewinding just few hours back, he had suffered one of the worst injuries till date, falling face down on concrete side walk while riding his bike, resulting in loss of front tooth (luckily a wiggly one), wounded gums and cuts big enough to incur stiches on lower lip and chin. While I was still in kind of trauma from all the stress of spending hours in Urgent Care and from just being a mother who had to pin her son down to the bed so the stiches can go smooth on his face, he seemed to have bounced back to himself so quickly! There was no sign of stress, no pain from injuries or regret for the incident on his face. He was brighter than ever and chirpier than usual. For him it was rewarding enough that we were celebrating the day with visit to his favorite ice cream parlor.

The tenacity
and spring like quality to rebound from incidents and experiences of life is
something kids teach us more than anyone else, although for us adults, that is
one of the most difficult traits to follow. To let go, to move on, to forget
and forgive, to come on terms with whatever happened, seems one of the most
difficult and unattainable things in life while kids do it so easily and almost
all the time. I smiled at my son and
nodded positively to his request to enjoy simple pleasures of life! After all
he had given me another gem to keep in my treasure chest forever and after!
When in distress, pain or sadness from things that happened in your life, take
a deep breath, open up your fists, close your eyes and just let things go. If anything
you are only helping yourself move forward. Find better and pleasant things and
experiences in life to replace the bitter ones and engage yourself in simple
joys of life, like enjoying an ice-cream while gently splashing your feet in
the cold water! J
